Default transfer PT 8.1 to 10 on new iMac

Years ago, I installed PT 7 from a disc. Throughout the years, I upgraded to PT 8.1 by downloading via Digidesign's site. I now want to upgrade to PT 10, but want it installed on a new iMac. Is there a way for me to upgrade to Pro Tools 10 Upgrade/Crossgrade onto my new computer? If so, can you send me a link that explain how it's done? Or do I have to buy it new?

I went from PT 7.x on a G5 iMac to PT10 on a new iMac running Lion.

I bought my iMac and PT10 upgrade from Guitar Center. That purchase of the upgrade from PT 8 and lower now costs $399.

Since the software is delivered over the internet, all I got for my $$ was a code that was printed on my Guitar Center receipt. That code enabled me to download PT10 from the Avid site.

To do this, you have to have an account at Avid, where it is established that you are a current owner of a lower version of LE.

Anyhoo, it is kind of weird compared to the old way of getting a box with a disc in it, but it works.

AH, I noticed upon better reading that you have downloaded the software before. This should be familiar for you-

Hope this helps-

The main thing is that you don't need to have a previous version of Protools installed on the new Mac, because Protools 10 is a full installer. You get the same thing as if you bought a full version, only you pay less because it's a crossgrade.

So you just download PT10 to your new Mac and install it.
