I've looked on the compatibility part of the site, and it says that AMD64s are not 'fully qualified' yet.
I am considereing buying an AMD 64 as an upgrade, and i was wondering if its a safe bet yet or not? does anyknow know if PT 6.7 works or has any problems with the AMD 64 proccessors? also, does anyknow know if digidesign are going to be developing PT to take advantage of 64 bit processors in the near future? i know there is a 64 bit version of MS XP coming out towards the end of this year, do you know if PT will release a 64 bit version around the same time as the new operating system coomes out? any help or advise would be great, cos i'm not sure if its saft to buy one of these processors just yet. thanx alot! |

I tried to get 5.3.1 working on an AMD64 system and couldn't do it. Digidesign won't support the system because it's not qualified. There are many who have it working. In some cases they're running 6.4cs9 and/or SP1. After my experience, I couldn't recommend running PTLE on a PC platform because it's so flaky. Good luck.

That is too funny. We've been using the AMD 64 processor for almost a year now with no problems if you use the motherboard listed in the Best Desktop for PTLE thread, first post. The only problem is during installation. I recommend sticking with XP SP1 or doing the DEP fix for SP2. SP1 has not given us any problems.
These are the most powerful systems available today. Hammersmith, you need to do some reading. That A8V motherboard will work as well. Either get rid of the SP2 and reinstall with SP1 or do the DEP fix listed in the Win XP SP2 Update thread. I prefer SP1. Allen |

hmm, I have an AMD 64, anxious to see how it works when I finally upgrade to 6.7 (which i need to do soon. I bought my 002R around Nov. 2nd, so it should be free to upgrade, correct?)

I ran the 64 bit BETA an installed PTLE the application installs and launches fine. The problem is that DIGI hasn't written drivers for the platform yet. This means...the 32 bit version of PT will run and in my experience with LIVE it will run a little faster (LIVE ran really well on 64 bit). As far as a 64 bit application? Who knows when that'll happen.
At the 6.7 launch I asked the DIGI rep about releasing drivers for the 002 and if there will be a user BETA. All I got (understandably) was "we are working closely with MS and hardware developers for future releases" etc. I was led to believe that there probably wont be much more development for the current harware config due to the advent of 64 bit and PCI express. Why waste money on technology that has already been superseeded? Surely that would be a big mistake for their business. I imagine they'll be one of the first to market with 64 bit pro audio and PCI express for TDM systems. Just my 2 cents.

I think there is a misconception about the topic here. I was under the impression that the person above was talking about AMD 64 processors, not the 64 bit Windows OS. The AMD 64 processors run on PTLE 6.7 just fine as well as other 32 bit applications.

Hey thanks for the update on the 64 bit version of Windows Beta working with PTLE. I didn't even see the last part of the question until now.

I just installed PT 6.7 on my AMD 64 3400+ system, and it actually runs BETTER than 6.4
After jumping from pentium to AMD, I will never go back. |
