Default sample rate question

Hey, I have the 002r and a ISA428. My friend told me i shouldn't record at 48 because when i convert to 44.1/16 bit i will do more harm then good...is this true? i am currently recording at 44.1/24 bit, will it make a difference if i move to 48?

Default Re: sample rate question

there are lots of opinions on this one. My own is to record 24 bit/44.1K as it does not require samplerate conversion to get a 16 bit/44.1K file suitable for CD burning(do dither from 24 bit to 16 bit though). Some want the slight improvement in HF response. Others feel that the conversion may actually smooth out some of the choppiness in the original sample stage. Just make sure that you match samplerate/bit depth on the ISA and 002. I screwed myself on that one as a 48k sample plays at the wrong speed in a 44.1k session. Don't forget to set the 002 to sync to ADAT so it will lock to the ISA428. Of course if you are patching the ISA428 to the 002 via the analog jacks, forget all the matching and sync stuff. My setup uses the digital option in the 428.
