001 Focus Mic Pre Better than the 002's ?

When I purchased my 002 at te pro-audio store I ran a Protools session using a 001 and then a mirror session the Motu fire wire 888 using logic. All in all the Protools 001 was a tad more direct sounding and punchier. The 888 with Logic had some nice spacial stuff going on but just was not as hard hitting.

I was told recently that the 001 has a better mic pre than the four in the 002.

Is this true ?

No really his argument was based on the Focusrite pre in the 001 and a no name pres in the 002?

Granted there are top and bottom end Focusrite pres but I do know Focusrite pres are good stuff.

What kind of pres are in my 002?

The ones in the 001 are some no name chump ones (no offense), and the ones in the 002 are based loosly on the digidesgn pre. Neither are focusrite.

Firstly, the 001 does not have focusrite preamps. The M-Box does however use preamps disigned or licensed by focusrite. The 002 uses a premplifier design that came from the early developmental stages of the Digidesign 8 channel preamp: the PRE. The 002 pre's are quite a step above the average pre in sound quality (including the majority of focusrite preamps) in my opinion. They are not colored at all...extremely low noise, hot, and clean. They may not have the most versatility, but they certainly are far more useful than the 001 pre's imo.
