MIDI Tempo Change causes loss of CPU power
I'm new to Pro Tools LE. I am importing MIDI files for editing. Whenever a file requests a tempo change Pro Tools stops at that point and gives me the message "You are running out of CPU power..." I'm not using any RTAS plugins or doing anything other than driving my Yamaha Motif as the sound source, so I can't see how the CPU can be stressed. I use a new fully-specced Powerbook on Panther. Any assistance would be well received.

Re: MIDI Tempo Change causes loss of CPU power
Howdy:
Sound like you have some settings that are not quite right. Have you checked the installation guide for preferences, start-up disk, buffering etc? Must be a simple problem. Have you checked the Core Midi set-up for any anamolies? Heading to Sydney, Barossa Valley and Tassie at x-mas. Maybe I can stop by and give you a hand!

Re: MIDI Tempo Change causes loss of CPU power
Hi Paul.
Thanks for your reply. The Powerbook was setup with Pro Tools installed and configured by the specialists I bought it from, so I haven't been through all the config choices available and I assume that they set it up correctly... However, I can tell you the following at least: H/W buffer Size = 512 samples CPU Usage Limit = 80% DAE Playback Buffer = Level2 (Default) Low Latency Monitoring is off Not entirely sure what the Core Midi Setup is all about, but apart from these tempo change crashes, Pro Tools is talking to my Motif through the Digi002 quite happily. I'm not running plugins when the crash occurs. Is there anything else that can change things? I can say that the CPU does seem to run much to high whilst I'm doing the most basic things, and I'm sure I need to spend some time learning the configuration side of things. Given I can't buy a faster Powerbook, my RAM is maxed out and I am using a Firewire 800 drive something must be wrong somewhere else. If you're traveling through Melbourne on the way to Tassie you should drop me a line. |
