Default need feedback on my recordings

New Pro tools user here-

I've recorded 2 "demo" songs on pro tools 10.3.1 trying to figure out how to use it basically. I've watched tons of videos, etc... yet I have no idea how it sounds.

Would you mind listening to some samples I have recorded and offer feedback regarding how it sounds?

Clip 1 - has vocals

Clip 2- has violin, guitar, viola, piano, bass

Don't understand what you are asking in the post?

I listened and it sounds like the usual demos found on youtube, muffled and kinda bad mix techniques, Not meant to bash you but if tou are asking if it sounds like a song ready to release my answer is not even close.

I apologize as i read back my post and it was pretty harsh and badly explained,

I would start by using some eq's in the vocals, play with compressors and try some of the widening tools aswell. I always start with drums and bass asd then vocals after they sound good one instrument at a time to build it up. Then you wil hear what needs tweeking.

I would really start by using some EQ and compressors and it will sound much better and it is FUN too :)

Good Luck and post a new version when you tried it out

Sorry for butting in but, all of southsides suggestions are great except for one. The suggestion to use widening tools is the last thing that you want to do. The widened of your mix should come as a result of using proper panning technique's. Pan your guitars, keyboards, drum overheads and rooms, etc hard left and right. That will get you started. Widening tools should be avoided at all cost as most of them create their effect by putting things out of phase with each other.

Hello all, This is my first time in one of these formus, I wasn't sure where to post so I just attached myself here.
In Protools 10, How do select midi tracks for time shifting?
When I select all of my tracks and render a time shift only my audio tracks get rendered leaving my beat and others out of sync.
When I select just the midi tracks to render it says "No audio selected" please help.
I'd like to solve this without exporting my midi files as audio and re-importing them. If possible.

Good point WernerF

I was thinking of maybe a widening effect on the vocal or on one of the guitars just to open it up abit but I may be wrong there, we use it sometimes but in a very thoughtful way so it doesn't affect the mix.

Ps. You are not budding in, it is great to get more feedback and keep the ideas coming. Maybe there are more people who would like to hear what other producers/engineers and musicians do. Just my 2c

Chris

Are you getting the sound you want on the raw tracks, I would start there.
Hard to tell without knowing what compression you used, but it sounds like the vocalist is too close on the mic.

This is a great book, but this section is the key to help you create better EQ techniques using the mix as a whole. Sometimes when mixing, it's easy to get the sounds your looking for separately then in the whole mix they don''t translate well. Try some of these suggestions to see if they help. :)

Doesn't sound bad at all. The main problem for me is that you haven't taken advantage of the stereo field at all. You can open up these tracks considerably by panning some sources away from center.
