Default MacBook pro i7 2 core vs MacBook Pro i7 4 core for PT9

What are the benefits of 2 core vs 4 core processors for PT9?

Will a 2.8 GHz 2 core i7 MacBook Pro be outperformed by a 4 core 2.2 or 2.3 GHz i7 MacBook Pro.

Many thanks in advance.

Having more cores allows you to reserve an entire core (or more) to the operating system or other applications. Most people are reporting much better overall stability this way.

Ok. That's interesting.

And will this also outweigh the extra processor speed (2.8GHz as opposed to 2.3 GHz) on the 2 core machine?

Typical me I bought a 15" MacBook Pro 2.8GHz 2 core i7 14 days ago. I asked when the 4 core i7s were coming out and everyone said later in the year. Today is my last day on their returns policy. What would you do?

If you can return and exchange, do so. Nobody thought we'd see quads this soon in the MBP. I figured best case scenario was a higher priced optional add to the top model. But Apple goes and pulls a fast one on us and makes it standard. lol.

If you DON'T return it. Your MBP will keep a pretty nice resale value for later in the year when the new ones hit the refurb store. So you might be able to upgrade later for not a lot of extra money when it's all calculated out.

If if were me and I time in my return policy left, I'd probably call Apple and try to get it sent back. I did that with my 3rd gen iPod touch I bought two weeks before the 4th gen came out.

Done it.

Exchanged for 15" 2.3GHz 4 core i7.

And thank God for Time Machine too! Marvellous.

Just need to fill her up with 8GB of RAM (as I had in the other) and will be able to make a good assessment of the difference as I have this last week been working on a track sailing very close to the machine maxing out.

Thanks eversomuch for your advice good souls of the Forum!
