Question on 001 and SATA drives
According to the Digidesign product compatibility archive SATA drives are not tested with the Digi 001. But of course that doesn't mean they won't work......it just means what it says...not tested.
I's like to add an SATA controller card to my 500Mhz.dual processor G4 that's running PT 6.4 and 5.1.1 on two drives and use a large capacity drive like the 500Gig Maxtor shown here for the audio drive: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other.../SATAM500GPCI/ I think I might go this route because it's cheaper than buying an external FW dive....and I can move the setup to a more powerful Mac like the Mirror door FW800 1.4Ghz. G4. This particular card will not work with a G5, though. I don't know if this drive uses a 911 Oxford chipset.....or is that only for Firewire.....someone fill me in on this......Is anyone using SATA with a 001 and having success and can I use a drive of this size?

Re: Question on 001 and SATA drives
I never used anything but an IDE drive with my 001. I also never needed more than a 150g drive. Firewire, while not tested with the 001, worked alright for my in PTLE6.4, but it wasn't supposed too.

Re: Question on 001 and SATA drives
HI,
About the question: SATA controller and drive size has nothing to do with the 001 or PTLE, it´s just about the System which is supported taht is 8.6 to 10.4. The reason why you Mac´s IDE will only run that drive with 137GB is that the original ATA/IDE filesystem protocol can not adress a bigger number. SATA file system CAN. Ergo: the drive size is attached to the controlling filesystems protocol. (ATA/IDE, SATA, SCSI, etc.) This is rough but catches the point of it all. The Card will also work in ANY PCI 2.2 compliant slot, as they support the 5Volt power which it needs. This is also the reason it will not run in a G5, cause of lack of 5Volts. Which concludes: if you can run a 001 PCI card, you can run that controller, too, cause BOTH need 5Volts powersupply. So any G4 will run that card. Oxford 911 is only for firewire cases, ONYL! regs
