Default Does Protools HD software sound different than Le?

Does Protools HD software sound different than Le software. I know there are benifits like plug-in delay comensation. But what I'm really asking is does it capture the sound better. I have an apogee rosetta 200 into Le. Thanks for the help.

Capturing sound has to do with the quality of your interface. The HD interfaces are considerably better. I just went from Digi 002 factory to 96 I/O. The difference is amazing. But the 192 I/O is again that much better ... and arguably you could do even better with an Apogee or Prism A/D in the chain.

As for software, HD uses 48-bit internal mixing, which is better than the 32-bit floating used in LE. This simply means less rounding error when you mix, process, sum, etc. Read the white paper on Digi's site if you're interested.

Rounding error? i'm not sure exactly what that means. Could I record and and mix in LE and than open that same file in HD and get the same Hd quality? Or would the mixing have to be done inside of HD?

it's all good man. dont worry about a marginal improvment in conversion and mixing algorithms. whats your mic and pre choice? room? player? instrument?

I use converters much worse than the 002 and dont give it a second thought. are you recording eddie van halen?

I worry about everything. But thanks for the encouragement. However I still appreciate an answer if anyone could explain it to me. What is Rounding error? Also can I record and and mix in LE and than open that same file in HD and get the same Hd quality? Or would the mixing have to be done inside of HD? thanks.

But really, i the real world it means nothign.
I did a test. Loaded some fiels in Nuendo and used a couple of waves plug-ins. I then did the same thing with a PT's TDM system. And copied all settings .
Loaded the 2 files, flipped the phase on one pair, and the 2 cancelled out.

If your mixes aren't sounding good in LE, they're not goignt o be better with an HD system.

If your main job is mixing music the difference between HD and LE is huge. If you work in another medium other than music, it may not be as critical. Every step that you take to making the sonics of your system enhanced, better reverbs, delays... Big Ben word clock on your 192!
All of these steps make an overall difference in what you are hearing.

Sure you could do that, you could start a mix in LE and move it to HD and get a better sound. But there are plugins in the HD Accel system that are not in LE (reverbs, compressors...), lots of plugins you can't get in a non Accel system. So if you really want to get the power of the HD swap out for a better range of plugins that only come with HD Accel.
