There might be away around it? I'm pretty sure that on Macs, patch lists for MIDI devices actually do spread out horizontally as well. Attached is a screen shot of the patch selection dialog in a different DAW for my old Roland MKS-30. It suggests it's possible, unless because this is some low level thing built into CoreMIDI, it's not doable for apps or plugins? I would have tried it in Pro Tools, but I'm having trouble with being able to load patchlists. I need to work on that.

Another approach is to have some sort of dedicated Effects Chooser window open up instead of a menu, although I prefer the menu.

So I've been using PT in Native Beta Mode since it came out and here's what I've noticed:

1. Stable and rock solid as ever!
2. Can't perceive a single bit of performance gain over Rosetta mode.

It's tough to compare given the limited plugins available. This beta is more about flushing out bugs than discovering Native's full potential. FWIW, in my tests the beta has shown definite speed increases. It also simply *feels* snappier w/ common tasks.

Try opening Kontakt Player 7 and some other items. I have not used it due to my situation here, but a fiend of mine says it's way quicker for example. PT launches fast he says on his Mac Studio Ultra, which is what I have. It's work in progress. for sure.

Kontakt7 surely much snappier on Apple Silicon, but it is still a wrapper for the original VST stuff. Noticeably snappier, so good job and thumbs up. I just wonder when it is purely AAX native...

NI is having financial difficulties. Wouldn’t hold your breath on any kind of speedy development.

I guess I'm no longer in-the-know when it comes to NI. That's bad news. Last I heard they merged with Izotope and had some independent money guy take the reins. They've had their rocky moments but they're generally a good company. Kontakt is an industry standard.

not sure that is accurate about the financial things. I spoke to someone at izotope a friend and he said that they still call the shots there and seemed like they have had not much change, but who knows. I heard a few disgruntled employees from NI complaining a couple of years ago, but companies do layoff all the time and those happened back in 2017 I am pretty sure. Of course I do not know all of the details, but they both seem to be thriving just fine.
