Default HW buffer size error message

I've been getting the CPU Overload error and it says if it happens often, try increasing the "H/W buffer size" in the playback engine ( I set it up to the next level in the menu 1024 samples).

Is RAM something that would affect this as well? I'm preparing to increase the memory on my system to 2GB (at 1GB currently). Is more than 2GB advisable - will it take advantage if I go to 3 or 4GB?

Thanks!

I had this problem happen quite a lot, and I was running a new macbook pro. What interface are you using? Do you have an expansion card slot?

What seems to be working (for now, will report back) is running my firewire 410 interface from the siig express card (using the power adapter unfortunately) and then running my firewire hard drive from the firewire ports on the macbook pro.

I tried lots of other things first, including chaining the 2, using both on the macbooks firewire ports (fw400 for both), and even running the interface from the MBPs ports (bus power) and the drive from the siig. I have a feeling the problem is somehow linked to powering the interface with bus power, but I have no concrete proof of this. I had really thought that it was the non-certified WD fw drive causing the problem, but not sure now. I was also able to load far more plugins and play a larger session using the internal drive, which just shouldn't be the case.

So, I am going to try it with this configuration for a while and see if I get the error. This weekend I was able to play a 12 track session with at least 24 plugins, and record a midi track with EZdrummer plugged, buffer set to 128, so that is pretty good.

Have you tried all the steps in the OS X Setup and General Troubleshooting thread yet?

You may want to look at the Help us help you thread as well.
