Mutes open/close late

With very light automation data, mutes open/close 3 to 4 secs late when "mute frees voice" is enabled. Turn it off, all works well.

Normally, I can usually figure this crap out myself, but this one has got me. Maybe someone else has run into this. The only new part of my setup is I added an expansion chassis. If no one has any ideas, I will remove the chassis, to see what that yields. And of course, I can just not use that feature, but I'm a "gotta know why", kinda guy.

In automation prefs, memory reserved for automation recording is set to max allowable. I tried less, but no help.

Setup:

33 tracks, 24 bit, Power Tower Pro/Newer Tech G3|250, Adaptec 2940U2W
system 8.1
disk cache memory set to 1024 (tried more, and less but no help)
Seagate 18 gig wide barracuda

DAE/DSI 3.4.2f9 - allocated 150 megs ram

DAE options set to the second from the last setting. (i'm at home, and can't recall what it says)

Yes, mute frees voices causes a delay with mute automation data. Always has, probably always will. Mix with mute frees voices off. I think you can decrease the dealy but not totally eliminate it if you set the DAE buffer lower or off.

probably best to seperate regions, then mute them instead of using mute automation...
