Default Video Issues - Ultimate 2024.6 HDX .MOV files

Greetings
I've been fighting with Pro Tools all day
Video Export was working just fine up until today
No idea what I changed

Last Monday I imported video and audio, 'mixed' the audio and reported .MOV files no problem

I've been back thru the last half a dozen versions of PT
Trashed Pref's
Fully Uninstalled & Reinstalled

I've just reinstalled Mac OS X Sonoma 14.7
Reinstalled latest PT - 2024.6
Audio sessions all working great
Tried to open a video session and get this error
"This session contains media that is not supported possibly due to a missing CODEC."

My understanding is PT works with Quicktime
I went back and installed the AvidCodecsLE (2.7.3)
But made no difference

It's reached the point where I need to ask for help
Thanks in advance

What actually is the codec used in the file/session you are trying to open? .mov tells nothing useful about that, it’s a container format.

What Avid claims to support is documented here and elsewhere: https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites...e-Type-Support

Installing Avid Codecs… again what exact format video are you actually working with?

Can you open other sessions/files? Make sure the ones you are trying to open have not just got themselves corrupted.

You may just be seeing a problem reported by others, e.g. https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p=2675003 You can use Google search to find more.

This is a catch-all error message and rarely has anything to do with the codec of the video. I've found it'll pop up with even audio interface communication issues or having trouble with reading from the location of the video file.

Pro Tools hasn't used the Quicktime engine in almost a decade now. (since quicktime got depreciated from 3rd party support as a security risk and then became the Apple-only Quicktime X.) Pro Tools uses Avid's own AVE (Avid Video Engine) that is also used by Media Composer.

As for the codec pack... that too is old news. Ventura onwards (maybe even Monterey) do not use the Avid codec pack because of Apple's restrictions. All Avid codecs are now incorporated into Apple's delivery (as they are required to.) You want to install the Apple Pro Video Formats package from Apple. The Avid codec package does nothing anymore (and it is noted in Avid's notes this info.)

This is common knowledge so I apologize if you already know this. If you’re using any codec other than ProRes or DNxHD, that is most likely your problem. Convert any mp4 or random codec with Shutter Encoder and all should be good.

OK..
The Apple Codec pack didn't work
but converting using Shutter Encoder got the video files recognised
However the video was still - wouldn't play

Anyway I tried an export
2024.6 Ultimate crashed as soon as I selected go from Bounce Mix

Installed 2023.12.1 and the bounce worked
However near the end I got this error...
"AVE reported an error at the completion of audio/ video export."

I'm about ready to look for some other software to do video in
The challenge is that I need all my plugins to work to mix the audio
Plus I use Elastic audio to line up the audio capture from the mixing desk (nice stereo)
with the audio capture on the video which is in mono

Converting in Shutter Encoder to what? You still have not mentioned the codec you originally started with.

Yes it would help us to know the exact codec and settings you used in Shutter Encoder. Or we could advise on what you should use if you're unsure.

Also delete all video tracks and remove all video clips from the bin before trying the newly converted video.

Apologies
I have no way of finding out what format the original files were in originally
They are a .MOV file

However when I converted using Shutter Encoder
I converted to AppleProRes with whatever the standard settings are

I've emptied all the unused audio and video files from the Clips

Just tried again to do a Bounce Mix
Same error comes up "AVE reported an error at the completion of audio/ video export."

When I click 'ok' pro tools crashes

OK
I watched a short video on YouTube
and tried selecting Apple ProRes as the Bounce Mix codec under Transcode
Default Compression - ProRes Proxy
And it's now working
