Default can't open new session error-43

os10.11.6 PT 12.5.1 14g ram
have already re loaded the OS combo update that gets you to 12.6 AND reloaded pt 12.5.1 I can open existing PT files but cannot open/save a new project. I think this has to do with some expired Avid software.. but i re subscribed to the plugs I thought were causing the problem

http://duc.avid.com/attachment.php?a...1&d=1482857798

ever since I updated to yosemite a while ago I noticed my Avid/ProTools file were not in one central folder but spread out in applications.
Hope I've given enough info

This is an OS error. Which volume are you trying to save new projects to?

I have been saving to an internal drive that also has the operating system on it. I have been able to do this in the past with no problem. I have also tried saving to external drives that I use to no avail. Any help would be appreciated

To which folder are you trying to save?

Get Info on any external drive you are trying to save to. Tab open the Sharing & Permissions section. Is there a check mark next to the option to Ignore ownership on this volume?

first attachment is from Disk utility.. this is my OS drive internal. I'm now reformatting an external drive that I had partitioned (i'm hoping that is the cure for my ills)

Question Re: can't open new session error-43

What is the path to the folder on your Internal OS drive where you are trying to save your session? All the Disk Utility picture shows me is the names of your volumes.

James Mac Pro/internal OS/users/jameslancaster/documents/music

I seem to now be able to save to any of my externals. (altered my permissions). I can not change the permissions on the internal OS drive. Can I make an image for the desktop so that I can access the permissions?
If I knew how to make a boot disk I would reformat the Internal OS drive.

Now my entire system is very slow.. when loading a PT session I get a message Insufficient system resources to load Dverb... How can I remove any inactive plugs..which is what I think started this whole mess (expired plugs)..

Ive used PT for years and never had this kind of situation

Use Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities) to Repair Disk Permissions. This is one situation where that operation might solve your problem.

Can you be more specific? Was it the Ignore ownership on this volume checkbox?

This is by design. Bad things will happen if you start changing permissions on the OS drive.

The permissions for your Desktop should be jameslancaster - Read & Write, Others/Everyone - No Access

Create a bootable installer for macOS

Try opening the session while holding the Shift key. This will result in the session opening with all plug-ins inactive. Does this resolve the insufficient system resources message?

I have loaded a USB Zip disk via "createmediainstaller" of my OS drive. As I was copying the other data on the disk via CCC some errors were reported. This is my problem disk and I probably need to reformat it which I will once I am certain I know how to boot from this Zip. Will report back. If you have any tips please ......
