Default Re: 10.1.2/10.1.3 crashes when changing Playback Engine settings

Honestly, this happens in 10.0.1 also. I can set it to any other buffer setting, but not 1024. Just thoiught I'd let support know that it's not only 10.1.2 and 10.1.3.

Still trying to track down the source of the crash. We do see the problem here, but it's completely random - we don't have a repro case yet.

Repair Disk Permissions (Disk Utility) seems to help prevent the crashes, but seems more effective on Lion than Snow Leopard.

If you have a repro case (do these x steps in this order) please let us know, thanks!

We'll continue investigating.

I have repaired disk permissions. It does nothing, just got the spinning wheel of death after changing my buffer size from 256 to 512 and had to force quit. NICE!

Psssst... You can change that to 1 minute auto-backups in the preferences ;-)

In many cases, the auto-backup in Pro Tools is a life-saver in itself. But when you're working quickly in editing with lots of keystrokes, you'd be surprised how much work you can lose in those 5 minute periods between auto-backups!

CMD-S is definitely your friend.

DTS:
Here is a quick video of the crash. NOTE that I inadvertently said I was using Pro Tools 10.1.2 when it is actually 10.1.3. Either way, got the same crash on both versions.

Post Re: 10.1.2/10.1.3 crashes when changing Playback Engine settings

Thanks for the video (helpful to be able to see your Engine settings).

We're seeing similar behavior here, and it's typically when increasing the H/W Play Buffer. If we launch Pro Tools or open a session starting with the Buffer at 1024, we can reduce then increase to any setting without problems. Opening at a lower setting, then increasing can lead to a crash.

Engineering is still looking for the root cause...

This is exactly the problem I experience, but it's not every time. Increasing HW buffer it what seems to do it and once that has happened I need to restart my computer or Protools hangs on next launch.

Just for the record this never happened to me once on PT9 or PT10 up t0 10.0.1 and I change my HW buffer settings all the time to switch between tracking and heavy mix sessions.

OK, so it just happened and after a restart Protools still hung on launch at the point of loading to Varifi plugin. Is there a bug in this plugin that maybe causing instability issues in this version of Protools?
