Default Anyone Using Dual Monitor Setup For Win98?

Has anyone tried using two monitors with Digi001 / Win98? I have an AGP card and would love to go out and get a $30 PCI card but I've heard that there can be major problems. I would love to have the mix and edit windows on seperate monitors.

I do but I use a matrox G400 dual head which has two outputs on one card . If you get a second card it will use another IRQ. Do you have one spare? If not this could cause problems.

I should have a spare IRQ. My system is stripped of everything but digi001. But I heard that Microsoft doesn't recommend using two different cards. How much was your Matrox card?

I am in the UK and the card cost £119 but I would guess it would probably be about the same in in US dollars as we always pay over the odds in the UK.

The one I have is the 32Meg ram version and not the g400max which has a faster cpu (more expensive)

I went out and bought a $50 - $60 video card from CompUsa. It is an ATI X-pert@work card 8 megs. My main video card is an AGP slot 16 MB card. Win 98 sets up the second card fairly painless. I am not completely satisfied with the clearness or the color matching of the two monitors. Both set to the exact same setting, but one appears not as clear, and I cannot get the colors to match between monitors.

I got mine fairly close but my monitors are different makes so they will never be the same. I also had to wait until the monitors had warmed up as one would take longer than the other

Great, I've got an LE with Win98 and a 20 inch monitor, but want to add a Panasonic PT-L5 projector tied in as a second monitor. At 12 feet the image should be about 100 inch diagonal. Going to borrow one to see how it works. Anyone tried this?

I am running dual monitors from a Matrox G400 card and have no problems matching... Used to have dual monitors on my Macs and am amazed how far Windows is behind Mac.

On Windows, any dialog boxes, warnings, etc. open split between the two monitors! This happens even if you indicate "Open All Dialog Boxes in Main Monitor". Windows is very poor at documenting the use of dual monitors. Most of the documentation treats dual monitors as though you are SWITCHING between two monitors, not utilizing them simultaneously. Very iritating oversight by Microsoft, and they are not very keen on correcting. Apple, on the other hand, has had dual monitor capability and functionality for at least 5 years.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an Apple promoter. Just have both systems and have to say that Apple is light years ahead of Windows based machines. My IBM dual 733mhz machine running NT is nowhere near as fast as my Mac G-4 500.

wildhorses,

Just curious. Why would you waste money on such an inferiour product as that PC? That had to be very expensive (with dual processors).
