I'm starting to think it's interference from the internal components in the PC. I've noticed the sound fluctuates with the hard drive. So the sound comes in and out as the hard drive light flickers. Could be a bad drive, or could be a power supply issue, maybe not supply correct voltage on the rail.

I also picked up a UPS with voltage regulator, so the power coming into the system should be clean now.

Definitely sounds like (ouch) a power supply problem. Computer power supplies nowadays use switching regulators versus the older linear regulator setup. A switching regulator, as it's name suggests, works by switching the power on and off at regular intervals, usually in the high 100's of kilohertz range. One of these, if not properly designed will give off all kinds of radiated noise that gets into everything. Modern supplies shouldn't suffer this but if someone cut corners when designing it, well.............

Lucky for me the ouch factor has been mitigated. Corsair has offered me an advanced RMA for the power supply, hopefully this new one won't have that problem.
