Default All LED Displays Are Dimming Randomly

I'm Running a TDM HD3 system on a Mac G5 with procontrol, edit pack, and expansion fader. Every so often the LEDs on the main unit will start to dim and the main unit loses communication with protools prompting an error message. There doesn't appear to be any sort of pattern to this so I have to assume that it has to do with the motherboard or the power supply. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so how was it resolved?

Thanks

I never had dimming LED's but I sometimes lose communication with the ProControl. When this happens, it is our G5 losing communication with the network. I have to shut off the G5, disconnect the network Cat5 from the G5 and restart. I then shut down the G5, re-connect the Cat5, and start the G5 again. This wakes the Mac up to see the network again, and the ProControl magically works again. Full power down and power up was needed to make the G5 wake up properly to see the network. Don't know if this your problem, but it worth looking at.

You've checked the sleep prefs on the main unit?
Or does this happen while active?

Hello,
I had the same exact problem a few years ago, it was the power supply.

Yes, it happens while active. I've also reset the firmware and for the last month or so the problem seemed to go away. It's back again, and the firmware reset isn't working. Also there is a new glitch: When the ProControl starts dimming, the faders will, in unison, move up and down so fast that there is an audible slamming sound.

I'm almost certain that it's the power supply. Camilo, did your faders have do the same thing?

It is typically dry solder joints on the main power smoothing capacitors. I had mine fixed and posted my info about this in another thread:-
