WARNING: This a LONG POST so turn back now if your not prepared!!! Just thought I'd warn ya'. Here's a list of various plug-in latencies that I measured recently in PT 6.7cs3. I've always wanted a quick reference list for nudging (without the hassel of measuring each time), so I decided to compile one and here it is. All the VST's are wrapped of course. Incidentally, I think reading the delay is really only a TDM feature, so don't trust it entirely in LE. I don't worry too much about latency though, unless it gets big, but I do find this stuff useful. I think for the most part all the plug-ins are the current versions available, so I think this is pretty accurate. If anybody wants to add to this or has a different latency time, let me know and I'll edit this or whatever. I'm sure this list is going to be long, so if you don't want to read a long post, please hit the back button now.
It's listed by plug-in, actual measured latency in samples, reported latency in samples (all measurements were taken in a 44.1k session)
Well, that's all the ones that I had to check out. Sorry for the long post. Here's a link to help out with Delay Compensation in the other areas of PT LE. I've posted some current latency measurements in the thread.

does this mean the latency number is divided by the sample rate?
eg. Waves Ulta Pitch (all variations); 8192, 8239 divided by 44.1 = 186.25 ms ? |

Hi!
Great post - thanks for sharing. I was wondering though - couldn't PT do this compensation automatically ? I mean it could measure the delay and compensate track playback seemlessly ? I think it is already done in several DAW applications out there ... More creativity - less hazzle Cheers, // J

You mean like an algorithm that takes the known latency and moves all latent tracks forward by the latency amount so that new tracks are played in time with old tracks, and and and then everything lines up during mixing and and and we'll call it Plug-in Delay Compensation (PDC) or maybe Automatic Delay Compensation ( ADC )???? NAh. It'll never work

stupid question, but with the latency,
but for example: Waves Rcomp; 64, 64 You would shift your track BACK 64 samples, correct? |

T.E.S.,
I have a few more to report, and a couple that conflict with you findings. amplitube and guitar rig report 0, measure zero when bypassed, and encounter various amounts of delay depending upon frequency of program content and varoious settings within the plugins...the latency is generally small though, less than 70 samples my version of antares tube reports a 2 sample delay, but measures zero delay morphoder reports and measures 639 on my system (you have a ??? for the reported value) the free nomad factory plugins (sweeper, tremelo, and phaser) all report and measure zero latency the joemeek plugins report and measure zero latency ALL TRackS plugins report zero latency and measure 64 samples Waves doppler's measured delay will change depending upon settings (for obvious physical reasons...like what the doppler effect is and what the plugin is emulating), but reports zero, and measures zero when bypassed. That's all I've bothered noticing for now...everything else seems on the money to me. Cheers, Chris
