Default Can three part harmony be done with plugins?

I am poor at singing harmony.
Say I wanted to create a harmony vocal a 3rd
above my lead voice. Is there a way to do this with a plugin or filter?

you could use the pitch shift plugin, but it wont be diatonic, You will have to figure out which harmonies are major or minor and process the different notes separately. Autotune is another plugin that will let you do it if you think about how. But either of these mothods are not gonna sound as good as really doing it.

Why don't you play a track of the harmony line on gtr or keyboard, then go and sing along to that with the lead voc turned off?

Swaphappy,
There's a plugin called the Ultra Pitch 6-Voice, that's really good for this. You sing the initial part, and then set the pitch of the second, third, on up to 6 voices, above or below that first part.
I have it, and use it, but to be honest, right now I'm not sure if it came with my Waves or BombFactory Plugins.

There's a Lenny Kravitz song,(I think it's 'I Want to Fly Away'), and there's a harmony thing on the choruses where it sounds exactly like this plugin(I think it IS this plugin, but don't won't to start a silly-ass thread on it). But, it's the part where they're singing, "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah..." if you happen to've heard it. Pretty cool plugin...

Swaphappy,

Use axmans' suggestion. In the time it takes for you to figure out the plug-ins, You will develope a better ear for harmonies. it wont take that long to get comfortable with. Plus, Its always going to sound better singing it yourself.

lay down the guide track, and just sing over it!try to double each part as well (sing each part twice) then pan 3 to the left and 3 to the right. it will sound fatter.

good luck,
Bloux

Use hardware for this feture - although not that useful on recordings, it has a very high fun-factor...

the story is getting more and more focussed on
using plug-ins... CRAP !!! just think music instead of tools...

axmen has got the right answer.

sing along with the voice already recorded.

my girlfiend, a singer, calls this "doubling"

double somewhat more and you got that big big backing vocals sound you always wanted.

good luck !

Harry - doubling and harmonizing are not the same thing.

For me the trick with using a harmonizer is to keep the harmony pretty tight - a 3rd, maybe a 5th but don't try an octave. Also mix the synthesized voices lower the real voices. Even an Eventide will sound iffy with too big of a range and/or mixed too upfront.

As has been pointed out though the best thing is to get David Crosby and Graham Nash to stop by and lay down some parts for you.

Doubling or harmonizing "blind," meaning without hearing the lead track can (and in my experience usually does) lead to tighter doubles and harmonies. If the singer knows the phrasing, he (or she) will sing it better without the distraction of the original line.

Plugins are awesome for getting a desired effect, but don't shortcut on learning to sing your ass off.

Thanks Roy,

That sounds very promising.
Could you check and see which bundle actually has
the Ultra Pitch 6-Voice plugin?

I listened to Lenny. Yeah Yeah Yeah I like it!
