Since I work with sample libraries a lot and especially in the orchestral realm, I thought I'd add some of my opinions here.

Firstly, I absolutely NEED Kontakt to be able to get ANY work done. It's always my go-to-instrument number 1, all the best instruments are made for it, and I use it for everything.

- Someone mentioned Scarbee, and I must second this. These are, without any doubt in the world, the best samples of the Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer A200 ever made.
- Galaxy II is the best sampled piano I've ever heard. It's hugely dynamic (the softest layers themselves are incredible), it sounds really beautiful and mellow (especially the Bösendorfer and the Mini Grand), its Kontakt user interface is incredibly versatile and user friendly, and it kicks the sh*t out of more well-known libraries like Ivory, it just sounds so ALIVE.
- I use ProjectSAM orchestral sounds a lot - Symphobia, True Strike 1 and 2 , and the Concert Harp. These libraries sound huge and expressive, although you can't use them for everything, and especially Symphobia has this really huge Hollywood sound that I sometimes don't want. I'm thinking of getting LA Scoring Strings to be able to record more detailed string arrangements, and have that more "airy" string sound which is a bit closer to my tastes.

Other plugs I use a lot:
- Superior Drummer 2 + extensions for drums. Addictive Drums is also cool for "go-to" production drum sound, but generally doesn't sound as convincing as Superior.
- EchoBoy and all the other SoundToys stuff - just incredible.
- UAD plugins, especially the Plate 140 reverb, some of the SSL stuff (I'd like to know how this compares to the Waves SSL stuff), and the Precision Limiter... Have also been using the Cambridge EQ, but now wondering if the Digidesign standard EQ is actually just as good for my purposes.
- Some of the Waves Renessaince stuff, like the RBass, is very cool.
- Melodyne is essential.

I really like the Fairchild 660
Works great catching transients that jump too far for Acoustic guitar, kick, and vocals.

I've become a big fan of Waves H-Comp combined with T-Racks for mixing drums. The H-Comp transient enhancer works great. :)
