Default HELP! PT crashes when I create a new midi track...

... I connected a brand new USB M-Audio to my Power Mac and, ever since, whenever I try to create a MIDI track ProTool quits. I tried trashing the preferences and restarting the computer, but nothing changed.
Did anyone have this same prob? I'm sure it's pretty basic, but I cannot solve it (I'm kinda pretty basic too!).
