Default This is quite annoying...

Ok..backround info...I'm running an HD3 rig on a correctly spec'd machine.

Here we go..

So I like to use audiosuite, but..the problem is...I'll select my audio...press preview...Ok great...it previews it...BUT...when I go to UNpress preview...or process the sound I like...I get..hmm...1 1/2 minutes of lag...and "Pro tools not responding" type of thing...but then finally it will unfreeze. This is quite annoying...as it's with EVERY plugin i audiosuite...and it never used to happen before...like.. 2 months ago..

It has seemed like my windows machine has beeen going from: Way better than the G5 i used to use...to, x1000 worse than the G5. Anybody have any ideas?

Maybe I setup pro tools wrong...saying that...I probably shouldn't have installed it in the C:/program files...but to a separate partition maybe?

I dunno...Any help would be great.

Oh yea..and my stupid mackie universal...I always get this error..."Ran out of 82 byte tokens"...well yea I increased token size...but hell...it keeps doing it...so finally just unplugged the damn thing..

I'm stressed as you can tell...sorry. Very stressful when stuff doesn't work correctly.

Thanks again.

Brian.

The most obvious question must be, which version of PT are you currently running?
You have a HD3 rig, so why this thing with AudioSuite Plugins while you can run them realtime, at least some of them

Hi bigshow,

This makes me nervous since I just switched from Mac myself. Hope it's not a sign of things to come. Is this the only thing you've noticed happen over time, or are there other issues as well?

As far as the preview issue, I'm speculating that PT maybe writes some temporary files for previewing AS. Have you run a maintenance program like System Mechanic Pro lately and deleted old temp files? Maybe clean up the registry while your at it. My WinXP laptop is a horribly abused machine, connected to the internet in hotel rooms, and generally being asked to perform over it's ability on a regular basis. When it starts getting weird I usually run System Mechanic Pro and all is well, or better anyway. Worth a try.

I don't see that here with the latest 6.7 build.. what's your AS buffer size set to in your prefs? Have you tried deleting your prefs to see if that fixes it?

..and how much physical RAM do you have installed and have you changed your processor scheduling setting to background services?

hello.

1 post. The reason i like to use audiosuite often is because it's either doing an effect on just one certain part of the song...or autotune...or just for organization purposes...I don't want to have all this stuff on the tracks..and have to automate the bypass..and then do this and that...too much hassle...might as well just print it .

2 post. I have noticed a deterieration in performance, and buggyness overall as time goes by...It could be because my system is getting messy...I also definately get some just, crude lockups, and just weird things happening..like weird loopage of sounds, and weird noises coming out of speakers sometimes from protools...I can say now...that I am not horribly satisfied with my machine anymore..even though 2 months ago I couldn't stop raging about it...Maybe i jinxed myself huh?

3 post.(Rail Jon)...to be honest...didn't know there was an AS buffer size..Just thought there was just the one buffer setting to set. I've tried deleting the prefs..but no fixes there..

It could be my RAM, which is only 512megs at the moment...and i'll have to check on the processor scheduling once i get home....and yea i'm running 6.7.

I'll post again if this gets better..by working all the suggestions.

thx for the posts..

brian

I have found with my windows machines, that after time, the whole machine gets quite slow, with laggs, and apps not responding when multitasking.

My personal theory on this, is that the windows Pagefile becomes severely fragmented.

as soon as I bumped up the ram on my machine to 1.5 G and disabled the windows pagefile, all of my lagg, and operation timeouts completely went away.

you need to have LOTS of ram, to operate efficiently without a pagefile.

My last question is whether you have any background tasks like Norton or Zone Alarm? I removed Zone Alarm from my laptop after too many weird errors. I've had PTLE 6.4 on my laptop for a while now and it's still pretty stable. I won't let the internet even anywhere near my TDM machine. Also heard bad things about installing Quicktime. If you're working with video, I guess you're S.O.L. on that one.

Please keep us posted, especially if you discover what the problem is.

Alright! So I have done a bunch of stuff...and have FInALLY come to a conclusion...

So I did a couple things

Clean up computer with some cleaup program(one mentioned in this thread)
Uninstalled programs unneeded..and got rid of unncessesary files...
Increased Audiosuite buffer
Partitioned my system
reinstalled pro tools and all the drivers(and plugins)

So, did that stuff...and the system is running much better...BUT..the audiosuite problem is STILL there...So I have to conclude that I don't have enough RAM(512meg right now). I'm going to buy some more RAM today see if that helps..we'll see.

As far as running any backround stuff...I don't run ANYTHING but protools when working with it...I don't have norton, or any programs like that...just the standard system..without extra crap.

Had another thought that it might be XP service pack 2? But I highly doubt it would do that.

what else could be wrong..hmm...

Hi Thebigshow,
Please let me know what the out come of putting more ram in is. I'm having the same problem with audiosuite. Also, it seems digibase is quite slow at times when auditioning sounds. I have the same amount of RAM you have, 512. Man, looks like PT on a PC is a Ram hog.
Peace,
Brandon

I solved the 82 byte token error. Do a search for the solution. In short, get a cheap sound card with MIDI/Joysticj connector on it.
