Default How to Delete and Reinstall PT

My file must be corrupt

I can't install it after using a suggested fix for eliminating the "Install Helper Tool"

Now the icon just bounces in the dock

Can I get instructions for deleting and then installing

PT Artist

Thanks

Can you maybe keep your problems in one thread?

You did exactly what after being told not to try to delete the helper app in your other thread? https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=428862

The easy way to uninstall Pro Tools is by dragging the app bundle to the trash, and empty the trash, it will not remove every vestige of the app, but should be good enough for whatever problem you have created.

Who knows exactly what silly thing you did, but normally, extended bouncing in the dock is caused by macOS having problems contacting Apple app signature revocation servers, typically when local networks are misconfigured. I have written about this many times on DUC you can find those posts with a google search.

just install again. You've damaged the Pro Tools app by doing what you did. Installing again will replace it. No need to uninstall first.

And also don't do things like this when told it is a necessary process. That other thread couldn't be more clear. What's your issue with the helper process anyway? It's been part of Pro Tools for a while now and you only have to approve it through macOS security once after an installation and you never see it again.

Darryl I thought I was keeping it in one thread

My Cancer really messes with my mind and things that used to be simple never are anymore. I could not work in the studios I used to. They would show me the door for sure

Darryl you said

"Helper is a part of Pro Tools you don't get rid of it."

Then why does it ask for my username and password every time I start Pro Tools. It did not do that before

The Silly thing I did was click on this link looking for help
https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=423106

Thanks guys for the help

Hey if you are still having problems if you say/give us a bit more context we can help more. Including macOS version, Pro Tools version (e.g. "2023.12", and the model Mac you have, describe the Mac config as best you can.

You can't remove the Helper app, but you should not be seeing it ask you each time you start Pro Tools.

Did not do that before what? What exactly got changed that caused this?

And BTW if you were following these instructions:

https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites...er-tool-prompt

You were doing the right thing and are not just removing the helper tool. You need to follow those directions *very* carefully.

And it may be there is some other issue going on.

And the reason for pointing out in the other thread that you can (or maybe should) remove Avid Link, that is a completely separate app that can cause problems, like messing up product updates/installs and you are better off downloading the installers manually from your Avid.com account. Sometimes people call that a "helper app" so I was not sure if you might mean that. If you want to uninstall Avid Link the unisntaller is in /Applications/Avid/Uninstallers

After you install Pro Tools again *if* it's still bouncing in the dock one test you can do is to completely remove you Mac from any networks, disable WiFi, unplug/turn off any other networking. Reboot the mac--now it's competently isolated and see if Pro Tools starts up faster without the long bouncing. If so that's pointing to likely misconfigured network where macOS thinks it can reach the apple revocation servers it needs to at apple.com but where it can't actually get to those servers on the network and it hangs bouncing waiting (macOS on a fully disconnected Mac knows it can't reach those servers and just skips over that). If you have problems there I or others here can help you sort that out.

MacBook Air
Chip Applie NT
16 gigs of Ram
Sanoma 14.41
Mac HD
External HD 1 TB

Regarding the helper app
I was using it for a long while and then I started getting a request for a username and password every time I tried opening PT
I did nothing different it just started asking

I tried a fix someone posted on the DUC and it corrupted my Artist app

Now I am installing the latest version of Pro Tools Artist

It says I first have to Download the Avid Link app
I download it and it goes into my downloads folder
I can not open the Avid Link 24.5 mac pkg
It will not open ( I know how to open compressed folders)
A lot of people are having this issue

Can I download Artist (I have been using it for a long time) from an installer and not use this Avid Link

I use lots of music software apps Logic Pro, Reason, Garage Band, and nobody makes you jump thru hoops like Avid. I like editing audio in PT. I have been for over 20 years on TDM, HD, Native. This is crazy

As I mentioned Avid Link can cause more problems that it is worth. I would not download it. What problems you have had are likely not related to Avid Link, and you may never have any issues because of it, but I'd just do Pro Tools app and plugin installs manually. Like many of us have done for many years...

Yes Pro Tools typically has the worst installer related problems and worst compatibility of most DAWs, you can minimize that pain by avoiding Avid Link and generally sticking to the Avid approved compatibility table: https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites...tibility-Chart

If you already have Avid Link installed just ignore for now (You'll uninstall it later below).

You can download the Pro Tools installer directly from your Avid.com account.

Go to www.avid.com

Log into you user account there. (Green User Icon/"Log In" in top right header)

Once you give your user name and password and are logged into the account.

Select "My Products" in the Account menu (Green User Icon/"Account")

You'll see one or more broad black lines, one saying "Pro Tools Intro"

Click on the aqua colored "(V) VIEW Software Download Links & Product Details" to expand the download menu below.

You should see "Pro Tools 2024.6 Mac (DMG) 5.81 GB" click on that to download the latest 2024.6 version of Pro Tools.

That will download the installer "Pro_Tools_2024.6.0_Mac.dmg" to your Mac (usually to ~/Downloads)

Before running the Pro Tools installer double check that your Mac security settings are correct:
System Settings > Privacy & Security > Security > Allow Applications from [App Store and Known Developers]

Double click on the "Pro_Tools_2024.6.0_Mac.dmg" icon to install Pro Tools.

---

Installing Pro Tools will also install Avid Link even if you did not have it installed before. So before doing anything else go to /Applications/Avid_Uninstallers/Avid Link/ and run "Avid Link Uninstaller.app".

Thank you for the detailed instruction

Avid would only give me that info if I paid extra

I followed your directions exactly and everything is working ok

I can't believe the Avid Link app is such a problem

IF ANYBODY HAS ISSUES WITH THE AVID LINK AND COMES UPON THIS POST. IGNORE IT AND FOLLOW DARRYL'S DIRECTIONS... THEY WORKED PERFECTLY!

Thanks again Darryl
