Default SOS JC! SampleCell NuBus Problem

Problem: Digtest confirms SampleCell is installed, Sample Cell Editor does
not find any SampleCell cards. (2) experienced ProTools/SampleCell veterans
have tried my (4) SC cards installing both together and separately with the
correct DAE/DSI(Ver. 3.3) /SC Editor (2.1) combination as stated on the
"Legacy Documents" post. I have tried on two different computers (below)
reformatting the Mac's boot drive and reinstalled a clean MAC OS (8.5)
without any other 3rd party software other than DAE/DSI/SC. Swapped the RAM
between cards to see if that was a problem.I also spent several hours on
telephone with Digi Tech support without any success. Though this is part of
a Expansion Chassis system, I've long since eliminated any complications in
order to nail down this problem. It seems unlikely that 4 out of 4 cards
would fail. My details below

Computers : Radius 81/110, Power Mac 8100/80
MAC OS: 8.5, 8.1
OMS 2.8
DAE/DSI 3.3 (Tried all combinations and cleaned up between installs)
SC Editor 2.1 [email protected]

Sorry I didn't see this sooner!

SampleCell (I) or SampleCell II? If SCII...
- The U1 chip on SCII should be R05 (or later), or 01932-1792.
- PPC Expansion Chassis Interface (ECI) card should be serial number 401 (or later), or rev AB (or later). Earlier revs needed to be modified to improve SCII recognition.
- If the PPC ECI is rev G, check the R11 resistor. It should be labeled 221 (this means it is a 220 ohm resistor).

Have you tried the card(s) in the computer?

You might even want roll back to DSI 3.0.3 which is the first DSI that included the SampleCell INIT code:

Let us know if you still can't get this working.

Did you ever find a solution to your problem, Tunes? I was wondering, because I've been having a Nubus Samplecell problem too, albeit a slightly different one - SC Editor 2.1 will recognize my SCII card on my old Mac IIci fine, but as soon as I try to put my older SC I card in there as well, SC Editor says it can't find or allocate ANY cards (even though Digitest finds both of them). I've tried swapping the cards into different slot combinations, cleaning up and reinstalling, zapping the P-RAM to no avail.

I was going to snag another Nubus SCII card or two to plug into the IIci for a nice compact, inexpensive live sample playback setup, but now I'm afraid to. I'm almost wondering if I should just grab a Powermac 7300 and a couple of SCII Plus PCI cards instead - maybe they're not as finicky as their Nubus counterparts?

Well if you are gonna grab some PCI SCII's, it just so happens that I have 2 for sale. They always worked great in my G4 and they're in home studio condition. With wires and all 32 Megs each.

hi Michael,

I would love to know if the cards are still on the market and if so how much you`re asking! Would you ship to Montreal (Canada)? I`d pay in U.S. money order! You can get back to me at [email protected]

Thanx

I've opted to switch to Native Instruments' Kontakt instead, but thank you for letting me know about the cards, Michael - it looks like you already have another prospective buyer!
