Default D-003 Never Equaled!

Well it's soon coming to an end for my 003 console.(sad) Software driver & Firewire400 at an end. Waiting for the new MBP-16 in the fall. I've had it for 12+ years now. It was an update from my 002.

Not one single interface has > EVER EQUALED IT! Did I mention [Period!] loud enough?

I'm not going to go into the converter equality, etc. The reason for the post, is to showcase what it does.
- Up to 16 I/O. With 4 built in Mic pre's or 8x Line Input, plus ADAT
- 8 touch faders, banks or nudge-able. (full PT's 1024 resolution)
- FULL remote transport control.
- A scribble strip at the top that you can see without leaning over it.
- Two independent Cue amps, with volume controls.
- Two independent output monitor options with volume control.
- Additional balanced stereo input option.
- Mono/Stereo Monitoring switch.
- Extensive, automation & modifiers control buttons.
- LED metering.
- Multi configurable Pan-Pot knob.
- MIDI / SPDIF and Ext BNC Word Clock.
- Not all black, so that you can't see anything in a dark room.
- Can be carried under your arm.
- Doesn't look like it came from a video post suite.
- Was ~ $2,800. cdn.

Yes of course I know that Avid has updated interfaces. It would take an [Artist Mix] and after that they've got nothing! No internal Mic/line pre's no monitoring/cue options.

So I'm hoping that Avid has a strong look at a possible 004 in their future. I can't be the only one looking for an "ALL IN" interface. [Carbon] is still less than half of what the 003 Console could do.

Wishing.

I don't think there is going to be another integrated interface/surface in the near future. New control surfaces are available but interfaces are pro level or 3rd party

I agree totally that the Digi003 was a great product in it's day, as was Digi002. (I had a Digi001 w/a 24/8 analog mixer myself ).

And some would find it very useful still today, but I feel the need to remind people that technology has come a long way since then, so sound-quality wise, it's not something I would recommend. Todays interfaces sound so much better.
But if someone made a reasonably priced 004, it would be great!

Ah yes, the 004(something I have suggested to several Avid folks). Anyway, an Avid S1 and Focusrite 1820, or Presonus Studio 1824C hits the price point nicely. Add an iPad and you beat the 003 at its own game
