Automation points deleted on timeline AFTER manual rides
I've been struggling with this for quite some time now.
After I put in a series of volume automation points with the grabber, I'll do a manual fader ride at the beginning of the timeline. After I do this, ALL of my automation points that I placed with the grabber disappear from then on in the timeline. Why is this happening? |

Re: Automation points deleted on timeline AFTER manual rides
It happens in all automation modes.
I neglected to mention...it's only when I put points in by themselves. I haven't actually changed the automation line. Just put the points on the line. Sorry.....I should know better. Pro Tools HD 3 (9.0.1) running a 192 OS 10.6.6 - Dual 2.6 Xeon Mac Pro |

Re: Automation points deleted on timeline AFTER manual rides
So imagine you've switched to your volume automation line.
you points down like so.... _______._____.____.______._______.________._____ ^ Start a fader move here and all the points past them disappear after you've finished your move. |

Re: Automation points deleted on timeline AFTER manual rides
I've done some testing in HD 11.0.2 just now, and it happens here too. But, if all breakpoints are @ unity, it may be intentional behavior. Just speculation...
If a section is just +0.1db up/down, this doesn't happen. But, and this is a weird one, if I click'n'drag a breakpoint between two other breakpoints (to create an ever so slight sawtooth shape), I have to change the value by 0.3db or more for it to not disappear when doing fader rides afterwards.

Re: Automation points deleted on timeline AFTER manual rides
So maybe a "solution" is to just move the volume up a little bit. Not a great way, but it works. I still want to know WHY this happens.
If I was using 10 or 11 this wouldn't be a problem....I'd be using clip gain! |

Re: Automation points deleted on timeline AFTER manual rides
Ok, just tested your theory. I wrote some automation further downstream with a trim up about 2 db. I have a bunch of unmoved points in between.
_______.______._______.________._______/---------------\______ When I manually write automation at the beginning of the timeline, the raised 2db section stays in tact, but all the points disappear still. Write to end is not enabled. This is driving me crazy. |
