Firewire 800 and Factory 003
I'm starting out with my macbook (one firewire port) and the Factory 003 control surface and PT LE. Can I come out of a firwire 800 drive (Glyph) into the 003 control surface...or are there any firewire 400 drives with a daisy chain firewire port for going to my 003. I understand firewire hubs are a not an option...
Thanks in advance...thre are a lot of postings on this but nothing I could find as a bottom line answer. |

Re: Firewire 800 and Factory 003
Digi recomend us to use a different firewire port for 003 and another one for your driver otherwise you will get error msgs saying that due to firewire band witch the driver cannot keep it up. Also using a firewire 800 and 400 at the same time its not recommended, you have to have at least 2 firewire port available, in this situation you can go PCI express card to give another firewire port in a different buss.

Re: Firewire 800 and Factory 003
I'm confused by your answer. Unlike the OP, my MacBook Pro has a FireWire 400 port and a FireWire 800 port. Are you saying that I can't use both of these ports with a FireWire drive and the Factory 003 because one is 400 and one is 800? My dealer told me I'd have no problem doing that. If I can use both of my ports, which one should I use for the drive and which one for the 003?

Re: Firewire 800 and Factory 003
Most are not having success with FW800. You can feel free to try it as it won't hurt anything. The best solution is to use a firewire drive with 2 FW400 ports and daisychain the 003 after the drive(computer>drive>003).

Re: Firewire 800 and Factory 003
Have you tried it with the Glyph connected to the FW800 port and the 003 on the FW400 port? It should work - it's been a long time since I've tried this, but I don't recall having problems previously with this combo.
Alternately you could get a SIIG FW400 Expresscard (which is what I use to expand the number of FW400 ports.). It's not specifically tested or approved by Digi, but I've used it in several configurations without problems. |

Re: Firewire 800 and Factory 003
A lot of the Apple computers have a shared firewire 400/800 bus. When you utilize both ports, the speeds drop down to the lower level.
