New installation 2022_7.0 'To Do' list
My last system died in July and I had to start from scratch on a new machine.
Now running PT 2022.7 and for the most part things seems normal, but I'm curious as to whether I should be copying my last Trasher backup from my last installation for my preferences. I already have all of my custom plug-in settings in place. |

“Wow! Look at all the system information,” he exclaimed with a sly grin.

I've actually been a member here for several years, but have been unable to log in to my old account.
Have sent many messages, but never heard back. I was hoping to get back into my old account, where I'll update my profile with system info, etc. |

Not knowing anything, I gave my honest answer and felt zero compulsion to append my explanation etc.
But I think to start fresh is best, as most things seem normal, and are a configuration away.

Re: New installation 2022_7.0 'To Do' list
Thanks.
My SSD boot drive from my last system is fine, so I have access to all program and document (e.g., plugin settings) files. I was mostly concerned about the many preferences, which I hadn't had to think about for quite some time. |

Re: New installation 2022_7.0 'To Do' list
With a new system, I would also suggest resetting all your prefs and stuff manually, and then run Trasher so you have a new(fresh) "picture" of everything.
I also am curious(because you didn't explain enough for me), When you say "new system", then you add "SSD boot drive from my last system", do you mean you just pulled the C: drive from one computer and stuck it into another? How similar are the 2 computers(old and new)? If they are very similar, this is likely fine. But if they are very different(like different brand of motherboard), you probably would be better off by installing all software from scratch. Obviously, if things are working fine, then don't worry, but if things get weird or performance is crap, it might be best to bite the bullet and re-install

Hello Albee1952--thanks for your reply. You have been helpful many times in the past (when I was "dg27").

I also downloaded the latest version of every non-Avid plugin I have and installed those from scratch. I have the old system's Samsung 840 Pro boot drive in an external USB 3 case. I've been accessing that to grab my old Pro Tools track and plug-in presets and templates copying those to the appropriate location on my new boot drive. BTW: The difference in Pro Tools performance with this system (i5 12600K) compared to the one that died a slow and agonizing [motherboard] death (i7-960) is truly astonishing.
