Strange PASTE behavior in 2021.12.0
I've discovered a very strange issue (bug?) with the basic PASTE command in 2021.12.0 that I've never seen in previous versions.
Hoping someone can confirm that it's repeatable on other systems. Here are the steps I'm executing in the edit window; 1) have 2 mono audio tracks - both tracks have multiple audio clips in different positions 2) select all on the bottom track 3) use shift-return to select to the beginning of the track 4) COPY the track's contents (using command-C or the menu command) 5) select all on the top track 6) use shift-return to select to the beginning of the track 7) PASTE (using command-V or the menu command) Because everything on the top track has been selected from the top of the session, the PASTE command should replace the entire track with the copied contents of the bottom track. I'm seeing the contents of the pasted clips merged with the existing clips on the top track. Anyone else? |

Re: Strange PASTE behavior in 2021.12.0
Hmmm, just tried this here(also running 2021.12) and it acts as expected and not as you describe. Step #1 for any "odd" behavior is to trash prefs so I would start with that.
Next, I am a bit confused on why you do things a certain way(which probably has nothing to do with this issue, but.....): You selected all the clips on the first track, so why do the Shift+return? You already have all the clips selected. Next, instead of selecting any of the destination track, why not use the P or : keys to move to the destination track and then paste? IOW, I am not understanding why you feel the need to use the Shift+return command on either track Alternately, to select all the clips on the first track, select any one clip and then hit Ctrl_A(which should cause all on the track to be selected). In any case, I can't see any reason to use Shift+return Of course, this points out the good and bad about digital recording. Good: there's 4 ways to do something. Bad: there's 4 ways to do something

Re: Strange PASTE behavior in 2021.12.0
Thanks for your feedback. I won't bore you with the specifics of my workflow, but suffice to say, I've simplified it for my example.
Now the really frustrating part; I've discovered that this issue does not happen 100% of the time. I'll have to do some more experimenting to see where the problem is starting. Thanks again! |

Re: Strange PASTE behavior in 2021.12.0
Did you try doing it the way albee outlined? And is the behavior the same? Or sometimes the same? Or never the same.
He is suggesting the way that I have always used to cut and paste to a new track. No problem here. Steve

Re: Strange PASTE behavior in 2021.12.0
I've tried all the methods of copy and paste and sometimes the issue is present and sometimes it is not. I'm trying to continue with the workflow that I've been using for the last 11 years, so I'd love to solve the problem rather than change my workflow.
Thanks for your feedback. Continuing to look for what makes it happen and what doesn't. |

Re: Strange PASTE behavior in 2021.12.0
Have you turned off layered editing? Sounds like it is on.

Ding Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner!
Still not sure why it's inconsistently happening, but you've probably saved me hours of troubleshooting! I'll figure out the complete issue and report back. Thanks BScout!! |

Re: Strange PASTE behavior in 2021.12.0
Probably because there are some "rules" to layered editing. It's dependent on what overlaps what:
In your case, you have multiple clips selected and pasted at the same time but the same ideas as above should exist for how the clips react.
