Perfectly put!

Just finished a session for a few days on an Avid/Euphonix S5, and the rotary encoder knob profile is wonderful - completely intuitive - and doesn't include any
acceleration. This really leaves the user with an impression of solid tactility.

There has been some uncertainty as to the extent of Ideascale monitoring on Avids part - but it can certainly not hurt to try. So I added this one a few weeks ago:
http://protools.ideascale.com/a/dtd/...ng/211749-3779

And it seems I am not the only one who finds this extremly annoying.

I just added my vote to your IdeaScale. It is a little bit disappointing to see no ideas classified as 'In Review' or 'In Progress' though.

I would like to have the opportunity to select linear control just for pan, and the velocity we have right now for fine-tuning of other parameters, like EQ or other plugins.

Is there anyone from Avid here that can comment on this topic?

The S3 is a brilliant system, but the accelerating control curve of these pots really brings down the user experience.

Agreed!

It seems like it shouldn't be that hard to implement this (Speaking as someone who knows almost nothing about coding!) and the enhancement of the user experience could be very significant.

The rub is that both the S5 and S6 rotary encoders perform as expected and are infinitely more pleasant to use, so the code already exists.

The acceleration of the encoders is so unpredicable that I am finding myself wanting to avoid touching them now which is quite disappointing for a control surface.
