Default Re: Mac Mini 2018 + Pro Tools 2021 Fan Noise

OP

I have always found the best solution to a noisy computer is long cables and a small hole in the wall to an adjacent room where noise isn't an issue..

I have my PC in another room - a closet will do in a pinch. I have 1 long HDMI and 2 long USB cables - one for the interface, one for a USB HUB in the studio.

Me too.
I drilled my first hole in the wall… well, long ago.
But, since going from mac pro to mac mini, there is the bad blutooth performance of MM2018. Fortunately, I manage to keep it silent enough to have it in the room.

I have the same problem.

But only since upgrading to PT 2021.
I went from PT 2019 and had no issues, fan would come on only when the processor was pushed.
Now it comes on with only 10% CPU usage.

I'm on OSX 10.14.6 on a maxed out 2018 Mac mini.

Anyone know what changed between PT 2019 and 2021 to cause this?
Also, is there a way to roll back to 2019 without having to reinstall all my plugs etc?

Just rename the PT application and append 2021 to the name. Install the older version and do the same but add 2019. Then you have both and can compare between the two to ascertain if it actually is a newer version of PT causing the fan to spike.

When installing/uninstalling PT, your plugin folder remains untouched. No need to reinstall them.

Thanks, I wasn’t aware you could run two versions side by side.
