Last version of PT for Mac that works with Digi 002?

Hi,
I have a friend who is trying to get his Digi 002 up and running again. He has PT 6.4 software. Whats the last version of PT that will work with the Digi 002 and is it available. I would really like to help him get his rig back up and running. Thanks in advance for any info!!

002 and 003 use the same drivers. 99% percent of the time, if the 003 works then so will the 002.

Install the latest Core Audio drivers. If he can get system audio to play through the 002, then in theory Pro Tools will work.

Ok great. So he can go out and by the current version of PT Native and be good to go?

Well, like I mentioned above, I’d test the drivers with his machine and make sure it sees the interface and works.

Then make sure the OS he’s on is compatible with PT12.

If all boxes are ticked, it should in theory work fine.

If you search the forum, you’ll see many people running PT12 with a 002.

Very important to know for your friend will be that he definitely will have to upgrade and renew all his plug ins and VIs if he will go with the current version of Pro Tools.

None of the Waves plug ins (for example) he might have used with PT6.4 will be useable with Pro Tools 12 anymore. And not only Waves but all versions of plug ins and
VIs which he used to use in PT6.4 cannot be used in PT12 without upgrading and renewing because by Pro Tools 9 the whole plug in/VI format changed from RTAS to AAX
32/64bit.

And in most cases (like Waves) these upgrades will be chargeable and not free. He should be aware of it before buying Pro Tools 12. He might face a certain amount of
investment for all the plug ins/VIs in case of getting PT12.

So if he is a professional or a dedicated amateur he might do the investment. However if he goes this route I even would recommend to replace the 002 with another more
current audio interface as well. He can get some decent boxes for 200-300 bucks which do sound a world better than the 002 and they also will work better with Pro Tools 12
and newer versions of macOS at the end of the day.

If he does just some home recording from time to time he might consider getting Pro Tools 8 on Ebay for a few bucks, install version 8.5 (the latest version of PT8) on macOS
Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and stay with his 002 as well as with his computer. It´s just that if he will go for PT12 the computer which he did use for PT6.4 will not be powerful enough
for the newest version of Pro Tools for sure (power of the processor, memory etc.).

With Pro Tools 8.5 he might be able to use his old plug ins further on without having to invest in any upgrades and with PT8 even the 002 still worked very well unlike with
later versions of PT and macOS. Yeah, as mentioned previously he even might also use his old computer with Pro Tools LE8.0.5. This should work.

When he decides to upgrade to Pro Tools 12 there will be needed a lot of new stuff (software and hardware!) to make PT12 work as it is supposed to. He definitely has to consider
this before paying for Pro Tools 12.

Nevertheless PT12/2018 (the latest version of Pro Tools) is a fantastic piece of software. It´s just light years away from PTLE6.4 as for its requirements and stuff. However its also
light years away from PTLE6.4 as for its functions and audio quality.

So, yeah, PT12 can be a really nice thing but he must be aware of all the investments he will have to do to make PT12 work finally (plug ins, VIs, computer etc.).
