Default MacPro1,1 64 Bit Hack and Processor Upgrade

I know there is a hack out there to fool Mountain Lion into seeing my Gen 1 MacPro to thinking its 64 bit capable. Do you think PTHD 11 will do the same?

I also just ordered replacement processors to take my computer to an 8 Core Machine. I also ordered a SSD drive that I plan to use for the system drive.

Do you think I can possibly run PTHD 11 on the machine after all that?

FYI, the mod takes my Geekbench scores from 5609 to over 11k.

I would say it's cheaper to get a real hack, then you will get real power.

Mine cost me $1500, but x58 chipsets can be had for much less

I understand but there is a point when you will get more for just a little more money.

Example 2008/2009 Mac Pro's would be much better scenario

Native 64 bit instruction set.

Well I installed the new CPU's today. Went from. 2.66 quad core, to a 3.0 Eight Core. Was very, very easy and cost 200 bucks to double the speed of my computer.

Geek bench:

Before - 5069

After - 10,808

I also have an SSD 250gig to install, but waiting on the macpro caddy.

Very excited about this upgrade!!!

Barry,
I am in the exact same boat as you are or as you were. So can you run the latest Mac OS on your system now?

I too want to upgrade my PTHD system and think it would be cheaper to do what you are are doing. I figure if the case is the same and the drives are the same, why cant I just buy new guts?

SO, did the change make your system truely 64bit? Can you run maverics now?

Jeff, I've not had time yet to give it a try. I need to buy a different Video card for the hack to work apparently. I have the original OSX installed on a spinning drive, and a second OSX on a SSD. So I think I'm gonna give it a try on the spinning drive once I buy a replacement video card.

Have you watched any of the videos about the hack yet?
