Help with sound settings

Howdy and thanks in advance for any help given.

I'm a newbie with a stupid simple setup. iMac 10.15, scarlett pro and a keyboard.

I have my playback engine set to the scarlett and I am able to get signal into Protools First, but I can't get any sound out of the mac's speakers.

External speakers must be connected to the Focusrite.
You can't (or at least you shouldn't) have the input as one interface (the Focusrite) and output as another (the Mac).

There is a way of doing it using an aggregate interface, but the results are rarely satisfactory.

Also, PT First is discontinued, and replaced by PT intro. PT First was never considered a serious option, and had lots of troubles.

Provided PT Intro is compatible with macOS Catalina, you should uninstall First, and install the latest version of PT. PT is one installer for any license - the license you have decides what features are available. PT Intro is free, you can install the license on your mac, no ilok key needed. You just get the license from Avid and install it.

Intro is severely limited, I think it's 8 tracks max etc - you'll have to check on Avid.com. But it's a much better option than First. And the way PT works now, if you find that you need PT Studio for a while f.ex, you can get a month or two subscription license. No need to uninstall/reinstall etc. But you'd need an ilok.

Intro is better than PT First in every way possible(if you have First, dump it and get Intro, which is also free). As said, connect speakers and/or headphones to the Focusrite and all should be dandy
