Default unable to communicate with 001 after sleep

I'm running 001 with a G4 dual processor. If I send the mac to sleep and then wake it up and try and use protools, I get the error message 'unable to communicate with hardware'. I have to restart the Mac to use the 001 again. V. annoying - any ideas?

this is why digi recomends to set your mac to " never sleep"
That simple.

One of the best answers I've seen yet. Reminds me of the old joke, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this," as the patient raises his arm. "Then don't do that," the Doctor answers.

Even if you set your system sleep to Never, (in the Energy Saver Control Panel) some energy/wear and tear benefits can be gained by setting your display sleep to an appropriate interval. This had worked well for me and does not interfere with the 001.

Good luck

I agree, I would never use sleep either. I hate that option. set the display to sleep but never the procressor. I think that sleep writes the contents of RAM to hard disk and this is why it may have a problem.

Hey now, When I sign off from Compuserve and put my Mac to sleep, Compuserve is screwed upon wake up... so I must close the app completely before putting my Mac to beddie bye.

Tho I don't have Digi001 yet, I assume the app closes like any other. Perhaps you've done this and STILL have the problem??

Yeah, I would put sleep mode to "never." If you wish to save energy, what I do personally is to switch off the monitor and leave the CPU on. Since the monitor uses most of the juice, not the CPU, this is fine for an hour or so.

I wouldimagine the motherboard shuts down in sleep mode. This cuts power to the 001, a function the 001 doesn't support.
Therefore, when the system wakes up the 001 is initialised but the digisytem inits say it should be in a certain mode and it isn't.

An alternative to having the screen power down is to turn it off.

Hi there!

As far as I know the digi 001 card doesn´t support the "sleep" modus because of the power supply to the breakout box.
You can put your display or your hard drives to sleep but I won´t do with the whole system.
But I think that´s no problem...
like the doctor said: If it hurts don´t do that!

I have had this problem in the past as well. Digi has addressed it in previous posts. Not much you can do but 'restart'.
Hey, at least you know its not your system.
