Default Low volume

I'm working on a song recording my wife did and it's sounding pretty good. The only problem is that there are two syllables near the end of the song that are seemingly inaudible. There had been volume issues with other parts, but those were fixed with EQ and compression, but both processors seem to have skipped over the two syllables in question. Is there a specific technique I should be using to better bring out the vocals?

This is not a question which is appropriate for "Post&Surround".

Apart from this I would raise the level of the two syllables with clip-gain.

I'm moving this to General Discussion.

As to why? Under recorded, bad mix monitors, bad mix are all possibilities

Clip Gain would be my first choice as well(if you are running PT10). If you are on an older version, I would highlight the syllables and call up the Audiosuite GAIN plugin and boost them(5-6db as a starting point. If they are a tad dull, I would use the Audiosuite EQ III to adjust them so they sound more like the rest of the track. If the entire vocal is not "out front" enough, and volume doesn't help it, I would add distortion to make it "pop". The method is this: add a send to the vocal track and bus to an AUX track. In slot A on the AUX track, insert EQ III 1 band, set it for hi-pass and slide the frequency up to around 3KHz. In the next insert, add Sansamp or AIR distortion. Now play the mix and bring this AUX track up until the vocal "pops". Done judiciously, this can make a big improvement(thanks to RUSS at pro-tools-expert.com)
