Default Clocking MIX system with Apogee AD-16

Hi. I'm looking into purchasing an Apogee AD-16 (not AD-16X) and was wondering about clocking issues. I have Mix system with 3 888/24 interfaces, a Rosendahl Nanosyncs unit, and ADAT Bridge. I was wondering if I should (1)still run master clock out of the Nanosyncs unit to the AD-16 and then from the AD-16 I would send clock to the 888s and daisy-chain them, OR (2)forget the Nanosyncs and just use the AD-16's clock and daisychain the 888s, OR (3)avoid daisychaining the 888s and run separate clock lines to the AD-16 and to each 888 from the Nanosyncs?

Also, is there any problem with using the lightpipe connections on the AD-16 and going through the ADAT Bridge OR should I go ahead and invest in the AES output expansion board and avoid the ADAT Bridge lightpipe setup?

I will greatly appreciate any input or other suggestions on these issues.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks, Kurt. I never thought of going the other way around and letting the Nanosyncs be a clock distribution box. Duh. That should work fine. Also, regarding the lightpipe vs. AES issue, someone mentioned to me that lightpipe is limited to 20-bit which I think is correct. Therefore, i would lose something when going through the ADAT Bridge. Might somewhat defeat the purpose of using the separate converters. I will probably go AES all the way.

Hm, not exactly so.

1.) Put the Nanosyncs Ref. to the WORD. Than Nanosyncs will be slave to Apogees clock (not bad), & you will have enough clock outs to the rest of the system.

2.) First generation of ADAT Bridges was 20-bit. If your ex. is not 24-bit (Look at the logo) than you can upgrade it or buy used (cheaper.)

You could feed clock from Apogee AD-16 to Nanosyncs & than from Nanosynsc separate clock lines to the rest.
Apogee AD-16 thru ADAT Bridge should be just fine. Going AES/EBU saves some DSP.
(If you skip ADAT Bridge.)
