Default 2 QUESTIONS

MAC Power book G4 w/ 1G(2x512mb)
80GB Ultra ATA Drive @5400RPM
Digidesign 002R Pro Tools LE
LaCie 2d 160GB External Fire Wire Hard Drive

I am planning on recording my band practice on 4 tracks w/ the 4 XLR inputs on the 002R and I wanted to record the 1 1/2 hour practice straight w/out opening a new session. Is this a problem? Also what order should I put the G4/002R/LaCie in. My G4 has a 400 and 800 input for Firewire. Thank You.

The recommended path is Firewire 400 to drive to 002R.

The length of the session should not be a problem.

If i'm doing my math right, you should be fine, as a 4 track session recording at 24-bit 96k will take up about 5.8 GB for 90 minutes. I would check with poeple who have run this long, but i don't belive there would be any major problems.

Support could possibly help.

BTW, i'm getting this 5.8 GB figure by taking the amount of space 2 tracks at 24/96 for 5 minutes (165 MB), multiplying it by 18 (there are 18 5-minute divisions in 90 minutes), then doubling it (for the 4 tracks). Use this if you wish to check my math.

Tell us how you fare.

When recording for long periods of times, you may wish to change the DAE playback engine from it's default level of 2, to a higher level 4 or level 8.

24-bit files at a sampling rate of 96k are 16Mb a mono minute.
One 90-minute audio file would be 1,440Mb
Four 90-minute audio files would be 5,760Mb or 5.76Gb.

DJ Insomaniac is correct on the math.
