Default CPU spikes. Help. [SOLVED]

I keep getting error code 9173 "Pro Tools ran out of CPU power. Try deactivating plugins...blah blah.

This is nonsense I have a quad core hyperthread CPU and 16 gig of ram. Plus my nvidia graphics card takes care of the video, all the more annoying as I get regular video stop errors too. This only began to happen since I upgraded to 12. Never a problem in 11. I'm on 12.4 by the way.

Can anyone help? Should I do pref files dump as I've never done this, would it help? Thanks.

Thanks for your answer. All my drivers are up to date and I trashed the pref files I've done several reinstall repairs of both Pro Tools and Avid drivers. The Mbox 3 Pro has been buggy ever since I got it but I'm stuck with it for the time being. I don't know why but the Mbox 3 Pro seems to interfere with video codecs.

I refuse to believe Avid's official cause and remedy for this error. There is no way Pro Tools is draining my computing power, we are not in the age of windows XP anymore. My PC can run 3D graphics and video editing software comfortably. It should run Pro Tools without breaking a sweat.

Default Re: CPU spikes 9173 error. Help. [SOLVED]

Ok so after lots of uninstalls reinstalls deleting this and that, driver rollbacks ect after months of CPU spikes and 9173 errors, a windows 10 update was what was required. I thought this was automatically done in the background but I checked for updates and viola no more spikes. CPU hovers at a comfortable 10% at full load.
