Connecting Microphone
Hi,
I am a beginner and need some help out of the gate. I have an mbox mini with Pro-Tools 8.0.4. I know this is a Pro-Tools 9 forum, but I couldn't find a Pro-Tools 8 forum. Is there one? If I need to be in a different forum I would appreciate someone pointing me to it. My first problem: I have connected a microphone to the mbox and added an aux input track to the mixer. I can see and hear the audio signal in Pro-Tools. However I don't know how to route the output from the input track to a mixer channel so I can record. I tried setting up an audio track and clicking various options (bus and interface) in the I/O section of both tracks but couldn't get them connected. Specific question: How can I get my microphone to show up in a mixer track with a record option? General question: Where is it documented how the various I/O and routing features work in the mixer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

Re: Connecting Microphone
The section called Pro Tools LE on Windows or Mac would be the sections for PT8 users. Why are you trying to go thru an AUX track to an AUDIO track? Why not just create a mono AUDIO track and record your mic? That said, some basic tutorials would likely get you going, so take a peek at youtube.com and search for something like pro tools basics, or how to record with Mbox mini. Tons of helpful videos over there

Re: Connecting Microphone
As Albee said, just create a Mono Audio track. On that tracks input selector, choose the channel your Mic is coming in on and make sure the output is set to Main L/R (default).
If you are using a condenser Mic don't forget to turn on +48v phantom power on Mbox, otherwise leave it off. Record enable track and you're good to go. Have a good read of the Pro Tools Reference/Getting Started Guides even if you start off getting a good understanding of the different types of tracks and their applications. Whilst you will find plenty of help from the good folk here on the DUC, most of us who have been around awhile expect some form of basic understanding of the Sound Engineering environment from those seeking help otherwise it is very time consuming to go over topics that have been covered so many times before. Good luck on your journey and have fun.
