Audio won't import from Quick Time Movie AAC, H.264 in 21.3.1

Hi I have read a few posts on this but none of the suggestions worked for me. When I drag and drop a Quicktime Movie or import it into the session the Audio won't import from Quick Time Movie AAC, H.264 in version 21.3.1
I am in Catalina. After importing video it asks me if I want to import audio, I say yes, it shows the project audio folder, I select it and processing starts as it should but very slowly and stops entirely after it is only a few percent in. It just sits there and eventually I cancel. I have tried right clicking on the video to import the audio and importing the audio separately from the video it always does the same thing. I am creating the session on an external drive, everything is starting up fine and I've had no issues before. Saving the audio to a folder on the computer doesn't work either. Thanks in advance for any help I am new to the forum.

Import the video without the audio. Use Shutter Encoder to save the audio from the video. Import that audio into Pro Tools. I've had to do that for a few MP4 videos that have been sent to me.
