Default Computer not recognizing MBox2 Mini; USB light on

Hi all,

I'm very new to this so I hope this isn't a stupid question.

I just installed Pro Tools LE 7.3. I can get as far as the loading screen but then I get a pop-up that says:

"Unable to locate Digidesign hardware. Make sure your hardware is connected and turned on. Click "OK" when the hardware is ready."

So at this point, I plug my MBox2 Mini into the USB port of my computer and click OK. BUT for whatever reason, the pop-up box won't go away and keeps coming back up and I can't get past this point.

The USB light on the MBox is on. I did a little poking around on some troubleshooting threads and have seen similar issues with the USB light NOT coming on, but mine IS on, so I'm not sure that it's the same issue.

Anybody have any ideas? If more info might be needed about my specific PC set-up, please let me know and I'll be happy to provide.

I truly appreciate any and all feedback!

Chris

Now could possibly give us LESS info? Start here:
Help us help you - what you need to know before posting!
and post a Sandra report. What happens if you connect the Mbox BEFORE you try to open Pro Tools. Did you install according to the instructions in the Getting Started Guide, or just plug in the Mbox and let Windows install drivers automatically?(believe me, it matters). Post your Sandra so we can have a chance of offering advice.

Haha...sorry guys. I DID say I was new at this!

The Sandra report is below. Albee, I basically just loaded the CD and installed the software, so I suppose if there is a particular way to approach the installation, that might be a good place for me to start over. Even so, if anything in this report catches your eye as a potential road block or show stopper, please let me know. Thanks for the help guys!

Was the Mbox2 Mini plugged in when you installed PT? If you go to Device Manager, is there a yellow exclamation point next to the Mbox2 Mini device?

Yes yes, that is is good question. The installation method is actually crucial and if you did not do it correctly, you may be better off starting over by using the uninstaller on the PT8 disk, reboot and run according to the instructions(do you even have the Getting Started Guide??). Looking over the Sandra report(thanks for posting it) I see a couple of things that may not be good. First off its a Dell(sorry). Next, I see its fairly old in computer-speak. I see mis-matched RAM (sometimes a problem) and barely enough at that(not sure I would invest in more old RAM at this point). How about the graphics? Is that a separate video card or is it built in?(built in will have the VGA port close to the PS2 ports). Built-in graphics often is a show stopper.

***I just recalled you are working 7.3 here, so you won't have the PT8 uninstaller. Search the DUC for PTNuke. Its a great little utility for cleaning out any Pro Tools software/drivers so you can attempt a clean install. I hope I am wrong about the problems above. Got my fingers crossed for ya
