How to best manage tracks in LE
Any advice on how to manage the takes for each track when recording a session? I've been working on a session for a couple of weeks, and since Pro Tools doesn't destroy the .WAV file when you record over a particular track, or even a part of a track, my session is getting huge. Its probably over 3GB for maybe a 10 track session. I still have a good bit of work to do on it as well. 95% of the time when I'm working on a session, I only care to keep the most current versions of each track. Is there a clean way for me to A.) erase all previous versions and takes, and B.) Record in a way that it only keeps a history if I specificly instruct Pro Tools to do so?
I'm sure this is basic stuff, but I'm brand new to Pro Tools, and I haven't found it in the Users Guide. All advice is appreciated. Thanks, Russ |

From the regionslist audio dropdown menu:
Select-unused regions. Delete selected. |

Re: How to best manage tracks in LE
also, i believe at the end of a take, if you don't want it, hit ctrl backspace..
it will delete the file that was created with that take, so you don't take up so much room if you do a lot of takes.. tim |

I think that's actually apple+z to discard the take when you've stopped recording.
If you need to quit recording while your in record and discard the take use Ctrl + period. This also works during bounce to disk. |

Personally when i'm tracking I won't clean up my session until i'm about to start mixing. Before I start a mix I like to clean up my session by consolidating all the tracks of audio i'm using. Then i'll delete all my unused playlists, then delete all my unused regions. Mind you, when I do this I have a complete backup of my tracking sessions just in case. Cheers, Marcus |
