oops...just to clarify...the analog oputputs and S/PDIF only need to be on at the same time if you intend to use the other six pre-amps on the regular 002 input channels which is what I wanted to do.

You need to read that documentation a little more carefully:
Quote:
However, ADAT™-type connectors are bandwidth limited at sample rates above 48 kHz - each audio channel uses two ADAT™ digital channels to accommodate the increased quantity of data, hence the need for two ADAT™ connectors to allow 8 channels of conversion at high speed.

No LE hardware has or supports ADAT duplexed like that for 96k.
Okay, I'm not disagreeing with that. Octopre supports 8 channels ADAT out at 96k (over 2 connectors). 002 has 2 ADAT connectors but doesn't support the 96k duplex feature. Octopre supports simuataneous ADAT and S/PDIF out according to docs at http://www.focusrite.com/productdeta...iew=downloads. The http://www.focusrite.com/files/octopredigoperation.pdf document explains the optiosn quite well.

Yes, one input connector, and one output connector. These connectors are not capable of functioning above 48k; it's a limitation of the ADAT specification.

The S/PDIF operation of the octopre, according to that document, is all 8 channels, sent out from the 9 pin connector in 4 pairs. Since the 002 only has 2 channel s/pdif input, you would only be able to connect 2 out of 8 via s/pif at 96k, but you would not be able to utilize the ADAT connections at all.

So, for your purposes, 4 pres on the 002, the line outs from the first 4 pres on the octopre to the 5-8 line inputs of the 002, and then s/pdif outputs 5-6 from the octopre sent to the s/pdif input of the 002 will get you 10 channels at 96k.

Gosh..really
Time to put all the confusion to bed.
After looking at the manual, you do have SPDIF outs for each channel pair. Need to put the AES/SPDIF option card in though. The d25 connector has a pigtail with 4X RCA plugs, these are your channel pairs to the 002R SPDIF in. You can of course only use 2 channels with the embedded clock signal. I don't know if this cabling comes with the card purchase or not, sorry.
>look out for the misprint on the AES/SPDIF switch setting ! <

happy tooling

Okay, now that we've beaten this issue to death, can anyone tell me what other units besides the Octopre are compatible with the 002 for adding additional channels?
