Hi, welcome to the community.

If you want to use 192 interface, you need to have either old HD (TDM) card, or a current HDN/HDX card. Those cannot be combined with any other types so your Apollo would need to be satellite and both of the systems need their own PT licenses (with HD gear requiring HD/Ultimate license)

Hmmm, buying gear without knowledge or a plan is not wise. JFreak is correct, but as you are new to this stuff, let me dig deeper in the name of education

1-the Apollo and 192 are really not compatible devices(IOW, pick 1 or the other). Here is some info to help guide that choice.

2-Which version of PT you have will determine if/how the 192 can be used. If you have Pro Tools HD 11(or newer), then either an HDX card, HD/Native card will work(assuming you have the required PCIe slot. With a 2008 Mac Pro, I'm not sure). All of these options require PT HD or ULTIMATE software. Starting at PT 12.6 HD, you also would need a separate Digilink license($299 one-time purchase). Regular Pro Tools will not work with the 192. The UA Octo card can let you MIX with UA plugins, but forget about tracking with them as the latency will be a total buzz kill.

3-If none of this is making sense, come back with ALL the info about your setup(PT version, OS version, all hardware and how its connected, etc).

My gut feeling is this; to use the 192 in any fashion is going to cost a fair amount of money. That money might be better spent on a newer computer, especially if you don't already own HD or Ultimate software. The danger there is, firewire is pretty much a dead horse on any current computer(though most PC's can accept a card). If the Apollo has a lightpipe input, sell the 192 and get an 8 channel lightpipe preamp. Best budget option is the Behringer ADA8200(around $250). Best value is the Midas XL-48(sounds killer, around $900).

I wanted to get the m1 Mac mini
But I have already invested 1K in the uad octo Pcie card so I’m gonna go another route because I want to sync up all my apollos I have the twin x and the FireWire quad also I believe if I get an thunderbolt option card I’ll be able to use the octo card and both Apollo’s together along with the satellite too
I might have to go the pc route luckily I have protools 10 11 12 & 20.6 on my ilok still I primarily use 10 for now i honestly don’t know what to do as far as the computer upgrade goes I have a 2012 MacBook Pro 16 gb ram but my 2008 Mac Pro blows it Out the park with 8 cores & 64 gigs of ram with 2Tb’s plus high Sierra is a little buggy with the twin x and protools 20.6 I need to upgrade soon I have a feeling I’m gonna have to build or buy a workstation pc
That’s verified by avid only the biggest problem is going to be finding one thunderbolt 3 compatible with the Apollo Twin X

192 is cimpatible (not supported) with latest PT, but not gonna aggregate with UAD

Never thought I would be saying this, but the 192 is still going strong 15 years later. A good choice would be to get the thunderbolt chassis to 1 hdx card to the 192 mated to an m1 before they cut off Rosetta. Also, At this point there’s hybrid mode. You’d also have to get the ultimate pt. Which is very good for the perpetual plan at 399 renewal. I just checked you might want to run it on an intel since the chassis’ are not compatible from what I’ve heard

15 years? That box was introduced in 2001... maybe you have had yours 15 years?

I still remember I needed to think twice buying my first that cost over 5000 euros with extra AD card. When they were discontinued I bought three from finnish Avid dealer for 300 a piece even when I did not need them at that time, but my friend at the shop called and I made a flash decision. They are still just as good as in 2001 but dirt cheap now.

Sold mine. Got it about 15 years back. Back then protools software was tied to hardware only. The upgrade price on each iteration was over a thousand and you’d have the software being able to work with other interfaces as well after the hd8 upgrade to 9. Now they have a promo where you can get the 3000 dollar piece of software for free tied to an all in one new interface for a limited time

I know a lot of people running 192s. It is no longer "supported" because some of the chips in it are no longer available for repairs, but it is compatible.
