Question think i'll wait for PT-11

saw a webinar yesterday on PT-10.mostly a sales pitch but i heard that (AAX)? will be the new plugin standard and that PT-10 is the last one that will work with RTAS and others. I almost jumped on the PT-10 train but its all too much already! Im happy enough with PT-9. Im hopin they work all the bugs and incompatibilities out by the time PT-11 comes out cause all my RTAS plugins AINT cheap! Can anyone elaborate or add to this? I just like to play and record. Most of this stuff starts to sound like a different language.

I too have decided to wait for PT11 (providing it's 64Bit...been waiting for so long I'll believe it when I see it).

Not least of all because in all likelihood, it's not only plugins that will need to be updated, but Hardware Interfaces as well. A rather costly exercise. As far as bugs are concerned, every version I've owned since PT4 has had them unresolved to some degree so I'll expect no different from PT11.

The one good thing to come out of such change is that once systems become obsolete (which doesn't mean unusable), they get cheaper. Ultimately the Amateur Home Recording community will largely benefit from that.

So for now, I'm saving my $$

Umm... Think again.

PT10 is a transition product, which means everything from the old world (RTAS/TDM) still works as before but it also supports the new world in form of AAX-native (and AAX-dsp for new HDX cards but those won't support TDM).

If you want to wait until PT11, you most likely will also have to wait until all 3rd party companies have released their plugins and bugfixes. Because there is no RTAS/TDM in PT11 -- there will only be AAX.

Currently most my plugs are not AAX. There are only Plugin Alliance plugs and two Eventides. Another hint is that Avid has not yet released all plugs in new format, notably Eleven is still missing.

Even if PT11 was ready today, it would not get much use over here until Sonnox and Waves plugs are ready. How's your toolkit, ready or not?

I'm more concerned about the Interfaces that will work with PT11 rather than the plugs which is why I'm hangin' tight for now.

I've been told, by my customer rep at an on-line music store, that PT 11 will finally be 64 bits.

I have been reluctant to upgrade my MP9 to 10 (so I can use my Roland Octa-Capture) but 10 is still only 32 bit, not 64 bit like my Sonar X1 is.

Yep, this is where I am.

I started on LE6 when PT sucked for MIDI. Subsequent releases brought Instrument tracks, mirrored midi editing, midi realtime properties, midi edit and score windows, and several other goodies for MIDI composers. ADC and the ability to use any audio interface iced the cake for me.

Now, I make a decent living composing with MIDI and mixing audio with PT9/reaper rewire (PT9 has been solid). My workflow requires 64 bit. As long as a VI host is needed (just to get past my computer choking from the PT 2.5-3.2 gig RAM limit) then I see no need to pay for another upgrade.

All:

Also waiting for 11 here. I have too many client projects in motion that are on 9. I own three 9 native licenses on two Operating Systems. So I will test PT11 on Win7 64 and OSX Lion (or whatever it is then) at the appropriate time.

I run Sonar, Samplitude and Premiere, Vegas, Sound Forge, Logic in my work. My experience (with PT since PT7) has taught me to slowly enter the rev changes.

My personal caution is not based on any thread, but personal experience

I'm with Zed here... It seems PT11 (and all following PT releases) will NOT work with my trusty ol' 002R. So, if I want to get 64-bit, which I believe PT11 will be, *and* I'm going to have to spring for a new interface, it doesn't make sense to me to spend on PT10, rather save that money for PT11 & the new interface.
