Default Kernal Panic OSX crashes...greyed screen

I am sorry about the duplicate post, but has anyone gotten through to apple and found out if there is a solution to this seemingly non digi issue, that is effecting many of us?

I suspect this is more than digi can deal with...

Hey, I got that kernal panic and I zapped the
P-RAM (opt apple R+P) x 4 and was able to reboot
and was ok after that.

hey loop, if it is happening alot and you can only use pt for a short amount of time, i would have your computer checked out. it took 5 months, 3 motherboards and
three processors to finally get my box working.

if you get the foreign languge crash and the doss death
kernal panic it is defintely the box. one way to check this is to loop some audio in pt and see if it crashes. if it does then somthing is up.

thru out all of this apple was really stubborn about giving me a new box. it really sucked but it is all working fine now.

good luck

I have a reproducible kernel panic when I loop audio playback in ProTools. I have exhausted all my options, pulled the RAM and replaced it, reinstalled everything and it's still always happening.

On the very same system I have ProTools 5.3.1 installed on an OS9 partition and it hasn't crashed in about a year!

If it's a problem with the machine, why is the behaviour so different on different OS's?

I know you replaced the RAM, but for others with the same symptoms check out: http://www.macintouch.com/badram01.html
