How does one format to FAT32 in XP sp2
I have a new drive that needs to be able to play and record PT files in both MAC and PC. I was just told that MAC can't/won't play or record PT files onto NTFS, but will if it's FAT 32. Does anyone know how to format to FAT 32 anymore? It seems I can only select NTFS.

You might also visit the web site of your drive manufacturer and see if their current drive setup utility will allow you to setup a Fat 32 drive. |

Open windows Explorer, Choose Format from the File menu, On the format screen there's an option to format FAT32 or NTFS that's it... |

Re: How does one format to FAT32 in XP sp2
Keep in mind that if you have a hard drive larger than 32 gigs, if you format it to Fat 32, then Windows XP will not address the whole drive. It will only see the first 32 gigs of the drive. Likewise , if you try to format a partition larger than 32 gigs, then WinXP will not give you the option to format to Fat 32. You will have to partition it into seperate partitions each of 32 gigs and them format those partitions individualy.
Yeah it sucks. But that's what we get with proprietary file system formats. If Microsoft and Apple would open up their file system standards, and make them all available in all operating systems then we could use whichever file system works best.

BTW the proper way to format a drive is to go to:
START>Control Pannel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management Ths will give you the full formating and partitioning feature of XP.

Re: How does one format to FAT32 in XP sp2
I'm finding something interesting on my three XP Home system's.
I find the FAT32 option is available, only on drives that are currently FAT32 format. NTFS is the only available option on drives now formatted NTFS. |
