How to connect Yamaha Motif Rack XS to Pro Tools 8 Via 003 and Midi cables

I'm on windows xp with midi cable going out from 003 channel 1 to midi input on motif rack. then ouput of motif rack midi is going into 003. i also have motif rack hooked up to inputs 1-2 so i can monitor the output.

so far i can hear whats going on when i pres audition but i can't trigger the notes via midi. whats going on. i have tried for hours now. [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]

Have you tried enabling Midi Thru in Pro Tools? What are you using to trigger(play) the Motif? What kind of track(s) are you using in your session? I would use a stereo instrument track, select inputs 1&2 as the input source and that should all work as is, but I still don't know what you are using to play the parts(like a midi controller or some keyboard?).

X2 what Albee said. I didn't see you mention a midi controller. How and what are you trying to trigger?

got it working we called yamaha and they walked us through it. very frustrating i had a friend over he brought his motif and we had a hellova time hooking it up via midi. it all worked out in the end though. probobly wasted a good 3 hours trying to figure out how to get it working properly


i dont even know what he did i was out of the room while he was hooking it up.

How did you contact Yamaha and was the support free? I've called a few numbers and have gotten the runaround. I am having a similar problem, but with the original motif and MIDI connection
